Purim 2026
Yesterday was Purim, which for the preschoolers involved dressing up in costumes. The kids love this holiday, and the school does a great job of making the day fun. All the teachers and all the students dress up.
Matthew was a pirate.

The day started with a sing-along at school. That meant we tried to leave our house early to get to Starbucks for Matthew (his favorite: a plain, warm croissant and fruit juice), but we were delayed by heavy traffic leaving our development. We sat through four traffic lights before we could get through. The reason? People like the moron driver in front of me, who had never seen lane markings or an accelerator.

We got to Starbucks and then to school on time only because of my superior driving skills. Matthew sat down in my lap and consented to a grudging selfie.
The sing-along is a regular event I just love it. This one was even more chaotic due to all the costumes. In the video, perhaps half the kids have arrived.
The sing-along started and we sang our hearts out. When the dinosaur arrived, Matthew was thrilled.
When the dinosaur got to the stage, Matthew exclaimed, “There’s a person in there!” As I do every time we see the Dinosaur, I reminded Matthew that the person he sees is probably just the last person eaten by the dinosaur. He is too literal to realize I’m teasing him.
I sang and clapped my hands. Matthew will have none of it.
The sing-along ended with an emotional singing of the Israeli National Anthem. And then we had the costume parade. Sadly, my videographer skills are lacking, so you’ll have to imagine a joyous parade by little firemen, astronauts, princesses, butterflies, hippies, and so on.
Matthew loved the big gaming gallery.

A classmate’s mom got a photo of Matthew on the big slide.
The school does a magnificent job with Purim celebrations. What a fun day!
