Wonderful story and experience! First and foremost, I don’t know how you did puke on those rides. Bravo. Respect.

Isn’t it great when time hits a point that you can have fun with your kids? After all the late nights, baths, bedtime, crying, tantruming…eventually they become little people. I’m thrilled you are getting there! It happened right about age 5 with my Matthew and Maxwell too.

About school - nothing will be as good as Jewish preschool. At some point, I put my each year of kids in private school. I moved to Los Gatos for the schools. But drove to Palo Alto (45 minutes each way) for a better experience for them. I totally get it.

Glad your summer is starting off on a high note Paul! Xo

I'm not a person who pukes from motion or heights or speed, but after a giant sandwich--well, I guess I am now. I hope it's not the new normal.

This age for Matthew is really a lot of fun. There's a lot he doesn't understand so I spend a great deal of time explaining. I don't want to give him false information and I don't want to outright lie, but I'm fine giving misleading info if that's what's age-appropriate. We had a close call a couple of nights ago when he asked me, "I know that babies come from Mommies, but how do they get in there?" (Answer: "The eggs were there from the beginning.") He accepted that. Whew.

I am very attached to our Jewish preschool and our friends there, both the teachers and administrators and the parents and kids. We moved here for the schools and lucked into a great private experience. If the public schools don't work out, I will advocate for a return to private school. It is a common scenario here, although exceedingly expensive.

What are you doing with your time these days? Are you fully retired?

I love amusement parks and take my grandkids every summer. We have a Legoland and hour away in Gishen, NY. The kids love it! My favorite though is Knoebels. It's 1.5 hours away and just got rated as the best amusement park in the US, ahead of Disney World and Dollywood. Look it up, and if you're ever back in PA with the kids, you HAVE to go! Have a great summer!

I had never heard of Legoland before we moved here. It's a huge park and there's lots to do, although it's not as clean as I would like. I just pretend I don't see the full garbage cans and the yellowjackets everywhere.

When we were kids, the place to go was Hershey Park. Did you ever go? How does it rate?

Disney sounds like a nightmare to me. It seems there are a lot of ways to game their system by buying VIP access and all sorts of other hacks, and I realize those are huge moneymakers for them, but there's no way I'm waiting 2 hrs in line for a 4-minute experience. Curtis and I went to Disney World in Anaheim about twenty years ago. I've never been a huge Disney person so it's not the draw for me that it is for others. But we have friends who go regularly with their kids and it appears to be a >$1K/day experience. Yikes.

The kiddie rides are a comfortable place to start. I could just ride all of them except one and he didn't want that one anyway. It will be a bit harder when he can go on big kid rides.

Hershey and Dorney Park were always staples for us. I am a Disney fan and have been with grandchildren the last 2 years. It is so much fun to watch them be in awe of everything. We are taking a Disney cruise with everyone next Spring. At least it's clean!
